Description

Peppermint is a perennial aromatic plant in the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to Europe and Asia. It has a delicate, slightly sweet aroma reminiscent of fresh green leaves. Unlike mints with a high menthol content (e.g. Mentha piperita), this mint has little or no menthol, so its taste is milder and less pungent.

Traditional uses of peppermint:

  • for the relief of digestive disorders,

  • in teas, cooking (especially Mediterranean cuisine)

  • as a natural flavouring in chewing gum, toothpaste and mouthwash.

Tea (infusion of dried leaves):
Dosage: 1-2 teaspoons dried peppermint or about 5-10 fresh leaves
Preparation: pour over 250 ml hot (not boiling) water, allow to infuse for 5-10 minutes, then strain
Use: 2-3 times daily after meals to improve digestion or reduce nausea.
