Hojicha is a relatively coarse variety of green tea. The earthy and slightly smoky taste of hojicha is obtained when the tea leaves are gently roasted in drum-type ovens immediately after harvesting. To give hojicha a slightly fresher note, a slice of lemon or orange can be added to the slightly cooled tea. Want a sweeter taste? Add a little maple syrup.

Directions
Use 1 teaspoon of hojicha tea per 250 ml of water.
Make Hojicha the traditional Japanese way:
Heat a teacup with hot water. Place the hojicha tea in a strainer in a teapot and pour the water at a temperature of about 85-90 °C. Allow to infuse for 1-2 minutes.
If pouring a second time, allow the tea to infuse for another 30 seconds.
