Description

Flax seeds are small, flat, shiny seeds – usually brown or golden in colour – which are distinguished by their high nutritional value and their wide range of uses in nutrition and health promotion. They are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and are high in fibre and protein.

It is recommended to grind flax seeds before use, as whole seeds cannot be fully processed by the body. They can be added to porridge, smoothies, yoghurt, biscuits, used as an egg substitute (mixed with water) or simply taken on an empty stomach with water to improve digestion. It is an extremely valuable and natural superfood.

How to use?
Flax seeds are best used ground with plenty of liquid (water, juice).
However, if using whole seeds, it is recommended to soak them in warm water beforehand. The effects of flax seeds are enhanced if they are used with honey or jam.

It is important to note that flaxseed oil is not suitable for frying as it loses nutritional value when heated and can release trans-fats that are harmful to the body at high temperatures.

Ground seeds can be added to porridge, yoghurt, kefir, green smoothies, cottage cheese. They can also be sprinkled on salads, dressings, stews or soups – but only before serving, as heating destroys the beneficial properties. Ground seeds can be stored in a tightly sealed container for up to six months without losing their nutritional value.
