Organic Za’atar Spice Blend
Za’atar is a traditional Middle Eastern spice blend with an aromatic, herb-rich, slightly tangy and nutty flavour. Its composition may vary depending on the region and recipe. Za’atar originates from the Levant, particularly Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Syria, where it has been used in everyday cooking for centuries. Traditionally, it is mixed with olive oil and spread over flatbread to make manakish, a popular Middle Eastern dish. Za’atar is also served with bread and olive oil or sprinkled over hummus, salads, roasted vegetables and other dishes.
This spice blend is perfect for enhancing the flavour of potatoes and vegetables, as well as for preparing marinades with olive oil and lemon juice. For a more intense flavour, za’atar can be added before cooking, while sprinkling it over a finished dish helps preserve the fresh aroma of the herbs.
Store za’atar in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place. Before adding extra salt, check how much salt the spice blend already contains.
