The product is made from the edible seaweed Wakame(Undaria pinnatifida). Seaweed of European origin, dehydrated and crushed. Raw seaweed is dehydrated at low temperatures.
Uses
Wakame Seaweed must be prepared in advance by boiling for 5 minutes or rehydrating in water for 10 minutes (its dried weight increases sixfold)
Rehydrated and blanched, used in salads.
They are cooked as a garnish for various dishes; used in soups, stews, rice, pasta, etc.
Suitable for the general public, except for babies and young children (1-3 years).
Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Features
- Sugar-free.
- High in fibre.
- Taste and smell: mild oyster flavour, slightly astringent. No off-flavours or odours.
- Texture: fleshy and slightly crunchy.
- Appearance: Dark brown when fresh and green when cooked. The white colour that may appear comes from the algae's own salts, which act as a natural preservative.
Reference intake for an average adult (8400 kJ/2000 kcal).
It is recommended to monitor the iodine content of the final product.
Approximately 4 g of rehydrated wakame and 1 g of dehydrated seaweed contain 150 μg of iodine (NRV according to EU Regulation 1169/2011).
