Organic pearl barley
Organic pearl barley
Pearl barley is a semolina cereal made from hulled barley with a mild taste and nutritional value. It contains excellent fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Often used in soups, stews and porridges. Pearl semolina helps maintain good digestion and gives a lasting feeling of satiety.
A simple way to prepare pearl barley
Ingredients:
1 glass of pearl barley
3 glasses of water (or broth if you want more flavour)
Pinch of salt
Preparation:
Rinse the groats several times in cold water until the water is clear.
Cover the groats with water and leave to swell for 4-8 hours or overnight. This will shorten the cooking time.
Put 3 glasses of water or stock in a saucepan, add the groats and a pinch of salt.
Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes. (
Drain, if necessary, and leave to “rest” for a few minutes in the pot with the lid on.
Tip: Cooking in a pressure cooker will reduce the cooking time to about 20 minutes (if soaked).
